Bad Hofgastein

A traditional spa village in the centre of Austria's epic Gastein Valley, the pretty town of Bad Hofgastein is just as famous for its thermal spring water and family friendly atmosphere, as it is for its vast and diverse ski opportunities.

The resort of Bad Hofgastein is part of the Gastein ski area, which boasts 200km stretch of world class skiing opportunities. Beginners can start developing their techniques in the Angertal area, reached by ski bus from the resort, while more advanced skiers can head towards the trickier pistes of the Stubnerkogel mountain. You’ll also find two ski schools in Bad Hofgastein, which also provide snowboarding classes, suitable for everyone, aged 6 and up.

Skiers flock in winter to this traditional and picturesque town, not only to take advantage of its ski access but to enjoy its selection of lovely shops, restaurants, and cafes, as well the spectacular scenery it has to offer. It’s a great resort for families with young children, as its only a hop, skip and a jump from the beginner’s Angertal area, and its relaxed and laid back approach to après ski means the town tends to be a lot quieter than other resorts.

Although quieter than other resorts, Bad Hofgastein’s pedestrianised centre has a good range of bars and restaurants to relax in after a day on the slopes, while other post piste options include a billiards hall, toboggan evenings and trips to the casino, up the valley in Bad Gastein.

A trip to Bad Hofgastein would not be complete without a visit to the famous Alpentherme thermal spa, which offers fun, relaxation and rejuvenation for all the family. Here, you will find fantastic water slides, saunas, Turkish baths and treatment rooms, and after a few hours of pampering, you can head up to the spa’s Ice Cube bar for a tipple and some spectacular scenery!
